A better job

• ANDREW Mennear forgets that what we took over from his own coalition administration here in Camden, was a Noah’s Ark policy, where everything came in pairs.
Two consultant assistant directors in housing repairs; two cleaning arrangements on estates, one from in-house caretakers and one from Veolia; two housing managers per ward, one for tenancy matters, and one for estate services.
We came into power and appointed just one assistant director for repairs – achieving an instant saving – and he is doing a fantastic job in structuring the repairs and improvements service to deliver us even more savings, and sorting out the mess of the Decent Homes legacy.
We are currently in consultations with residents about regenerating neighbourhoods, improving the caretaking service, and cushioning the impact of the government imposed cuts on front-line services. And we are doing all this with less backroom bureaucracy – £45million to be exact.
