Yet another application

Published: August 25, 2011

A LETTER arrived from the council telling me the property developers who run a restaurant on Swains Lane want to stick an extra floor on the building.

Fair enough, I suppose: it’s what you would expect!

They plan to feed punters on the ground floor while slapping up flats above.

What is more irritating is how they distort democracy.

This is the third time in a year essentially the same plan has been submitted. Twice our elected councillors have deemed their plans unacceptable: so the developers just slap in another application when they hope no one is looking.

This wastes the time of our elected representatives, of residents who have to set about the process of objecting to the destruction of the atmosphere of our surrounds and of council workers who could be doing something worthwhile.

They have been told “no”. Why should they be allowed to resubmit time and time again?

What bit of “go away” don’t they understand?
