Tenants in need of help
Published: 18 August, 2011
• RECENTLY the Camden Federation of Private Tenants’ funding application to Camden Council’s Equality & Cohesion Fund was unsuccessful.
There is an ever-growing number of private tenants in one of central London’s largest boroughs who now outnumber their own council tenants.
For some 30 years the federation has valiantly helped and supported private tenants.
The local authority’s declared action at a time when rents are spiralling and housing benefit is being cut can only be seen as a direct attack on their most vulnerable council tax-paying residents.
I am aware that many councillors are appalled at Camden’s decision and, as a long-standing federation committee member and a member of the Quality of Life Panel for residents in Camden, I ask the council urgently to reconsider this most unfortunate decision.
