Living wage?
Published: August 11, 2011
UNDER the previous Camden Council, when Labour was in opposition, progressive councillors from the Greens and Labour voted in favour of the council adopting a living wage for all it workers and contractors.
However, since taking over Labour has been dragging its feet over enacting this part of its 2010 council election manifesto.
During difficult economic times it is all the more important that we help poorer families.
In London especially, we need to ensure that we pay a decent wage if people are to avoid falling into poverty.
The new Green Party-led council in Brighton and Hove has brought in the living wage, as have our neighbours in Labour-run Islington.
It’s time for Camden to follow suit.
