Carol Street
Published: August 11, 2011
IN my letter (Looking at Carol Street, August 4) vital information was removed during the editing, so I would like to redress this.
1) The community centre would not be sited in Bayham Place, as suggested, but, with the school’s permission, would be on Plender Street, where the chalet-style building currently sits, ground floor purpose built for the school’s use, centre above.
2) Private sale flats built above the shops in Plender Street and the Carol Street workshops (at least 24 2/3 bedroom flats) should garner a minimum of £7million in sales, this not only pays for all five developments but retains valuable long-term business revenues, moreover the excess profits (£2million plus, according to my estimates) could then be ploughed back into the Community Investment Programme).
Hopefully, the benefits to all parties from my suggestions will be as attractive to the council as they are helpful to the community
