Pools of sadness

• IT’S a sad business that very rich people suddenly find that they must have their own private swimming pool and their own cinema carved out of the earth from beneath already spacious houses – to the great inconvenience and irritation of their new neighbours. 

Their riches have clearly impover­ished them by destroying their  empathy with the rest of humanity.
