Pipes deface our homes
Published: 1 April, 2011
• WE are unhappy with the gas and electrical work undertaken recently in Inworth Walk, Islington, and believe the whole project has been ill thought out from the start.
Builders/installers did not seem to have a plan when they arrived and a flurry of phone calls to senior managers and head scratching ensued as the men on-site tried to figure out the best way to proceed with the work.
They seemed to be working out the order of works as they went along. This is in no way a complaint aimed at the workmen themselves (all were kind and courteous). It is aimed at the planners and project managers employed to design and oversee this work. We feel they have failed in their duty to manage this properly. As a result our house is now covered in pipes; it is unsightly.
As it stands, we have an ugly mangle of pipes, gas pipes crossing over electrical pipes. It is ugly and has defaced the walk. It is disrespectful to residents to have this imposed on us. This, after all, is our home.
It seems that to Homes for Islington it is just another job and it has no concern for the aesthetics. I believe it may be dangerous also?
During the work, another set of workmen were digging up the pavements in Inworth Walk. Surely it would have made sense to lay the pipes beneath the pavement?
We are disappointed at the work and would like it removed and re-installed to a higher standard.
MR AND MRS KELLY
Inworth Walk, N1
