Losing Terry puts value of the Irish Centre at risk
Published: 7 April, 2011
• HERE are two definitions from Chambers’ Dictionary: “cost” is what would have to be outlaid to obtain anything. “value” is the intrinsic worth or goodness; that which renders anything useful or estimable.
In these credit crunched times, the trustees of the London Irish Centre may be looking to reduce its cost by bringing in a new management team. (Clash over ousted green man, John Gulliver, March 24) But at what a risk to its value!
Terry McEneaney, current manager and local resident, has over the last few years hugely increased the intrinsic worth of the Irish Centre.
Its value and goodness are widely appreciated in the local community, and by the centre’s many visitors.
We, in the north of Camden Square, could not have wished for a better neighbour in the south.
Lose that local knowledge and on-the-spot presence, that combination of friendliness and smart management, and you turn a positive endorsement of Ireland and her people, and jewel among community centres, into just another institution.
Trustees, please think again.
