Let ’em pay for shindigs

• I WAS appalled to read that Islington Council has paid in excess of £2,000 for ten senior directors and legal advisors to attend an awards ceremony at the five-star Grosvenor House Hotel. 

I do not expect my hard-earned council tax to be squandered in such a cavalier manner by well-paid council officials. During times of austerity, it is essential expenditure on all such frivolous shindigs is vetoed. Should council officials wish to attend these self-congratulatory functions they should do so at their own expense.
