Help! Pipes make block look like industrial building
Published: 28 April, 2011
• THE way that electrical works and gas pipelines have been put up on the Popham estate spoils its appearance.
The walkways look like an industrial estate, not a group of homes. It is like going into an underground tunnel on the Tube.
These are not high-rise housing blocks, so why can’t the pipes be put underground, as they have been until now? I assume the answer is that to do so would cost more.
But suppose there is a leak and a resident walks by and lights a cigarette. There would be a big boom, which would ignite all the way along the block. Many homes will be wrecked.
Can those in charge assure me and others that this will never happen? No, I doubt that they can. As leaseholders, if we wanted to sell up who do you think would buy a property in what looks more and more like an industrial building?
