Have a care with street rubbish

Published: 14 April, 2011

• THE government has asked councils not to impose penalties on those who put out their rubbish whenever and wherever they wish to do so.

We shall be writing to the Secretary of State to see why he has done this when rubbish collection will become less frequent. We shall also write to Camden to ensure that despite this diktat streets remain clean and clear.

Meanwhile I ask all shopkeepers and residents not to place their rubbish or over-full bins anywhere where a poorly sighted or blind passerby could walk or stumble into it. How wonderful it would be if a little more thought and care could achieve, where threat of punishment has failed.
