Front-line jobs

Published: 14 April, 2011

• I COMMEND the community spirit of the Labour backbenchers to finally dare challenge the leadership over their irresponsible move to waste taxpayers’ money on a super building (New Journal, April 7).

Does Theo Blackwell have no remorse for the 1,000 jobs that have and will be lost from our front-line services?

He should consider himself lucky to have two jobs, one within the private sector and the other paid for by the taxpayer, not bad really when you are the cabinet member for finance that you can pick and choose to turn up.

He claims: “I don’t think the taxpayer would be very happy for us to be paying for empty offices”.

What makes him think we will be happy to pay £100million for a super building after he has the got the cheek to cut our services?
