Dipping into history

Published: 28 April, 2011

• DURING the redevelopment of Ironmonger Row Baths, an oral history project has been celebrating the rich history and personal stories within the baths (Mystery of 14th-century Penn tile unearthed during baths restoration, April 22).

More than 60 people have been interviewed and many more photographed by 15 volunteers from Holloway-based charity Rowan Arts. We are keen to hear from anyone with memories of the baths and their surrounding area. If you have photos, documents, newspaper cuttings or anecdotes, please get in touch with me via www.plungingintohistory.com.

The Turkish baths at Ironmonger Row are one of the last in London and we have arranged for an enthusiast to give a talk on their history as part of Holloway Arts Festival at 4.30pm on June 17 at the Old Fire Station in Mayton Street. It would be great to see many faces there but don’t feel you need to bring a swimming costume.
