In defence of workers

• I AM so glad Labour council leader Catherine West is to investigate a council contractor, Enterprise, which has been accused by the GMB union of employing agency staff with less training and paying them the bare minimum wage (Street cleaners protest at use of agency staff, March 25).

As a council dedicated to tackling inequality through our Fairness Commission, of which I am a member, we must demand that our contractors treat workers fairly, and we should expect them to pay the London Living Wage. 

Well done to the GMB for highlighting these issues. Lib Dem councillors are fond of mocking the GMB in council meetings, but the union speaks up for working people. 

I have no idea what our Lib Dem councillors do.
