Trees need nurturing

• SPACE has been left in the pavements of the Camden High Street for a new round of tree-planting.

Some caution though; with the refurbishment of Inverness Street in 2007 trees were also planted, they have mostly now died. Inverness Street can be a harsh environment for man, beast and tree, that’s no surprise.

It’s frustrating that I had told the council for months that one of the trees would die unless it had some simple remedial work to remove its guard and nothing happened.

Replacement trees will apparently be planted, so I’ll be optimistic and hope that these thrive, and blossom in the spring as we’d all wish but, of course, it would have been easier and cheaper to fix the ones already planted.

It seems unlikely that the High Street will be more amenable for young plants and so I hope funds are allocated to look after them as they grow, and the plan is not just to replant every three years.
