So negative!

Published: 2 September, 2010

• AS a Labour ward councillor for Gospel Oak I find it sad that your correspondents continue to emphasise the negatives (many of which are inaccurate and out of date) about our ward.

Perhaps they would like to come to the area and see for themselves some of the positives that are going on in the area like our local schools, library, play centre and community centre have achieved.

Positives, such as seniors’ luncheon and activities club, a crèche and drop-in centre for young children and their parents and carers.

And ICT training, youth clubs with their programmes of social, educational and life skills, the new gym and internet café.

And a school which has an Ofsted rating of “outstanding” in care for pupils and community cohesion.

Much of the work is done by volunteers.

Yes, our ward does have its problems but what is important is what is being done about them, particularly to prevent them happening in the first place.

I am more than willing to show people around the area and help them to meet the people who are doing all they can to improve Gospel Oak so that they can judge for themselves about what is going on in the ward.
