• COUNCILLOR Steve Summers and I have obviously spoken to different people (Libraries to get self-service machines, August 27).

Readers in Paddington library greeted the machines with dismay, “just like a supermarket” was a typical reaction.

People use them because they have to. If success is measured by usage of course the council will find them a success.

But welcome? Definitely not.

And we are members or readers not “customers”.
