Promises!

• YOUR front page (It’s up for grabs now! September 16) makes me wonder about Labour’s election promise of no more sell-offs. 

When I saw an estate agent’s sign on the West Hampstead Community Centre building at 60 Mill Lane I realised how much the community matters to our representatives and how much councillor-speak is just posturing.

Never since the 1930s has there been a greater need for vigorous and effective community associations, and yet this is when a valuable facility is taken away and is replaced by an appalling alternative regarded by many as unfit for purpose.

Labour can still have the statesmanship to admit a misjudgment and do a U-turn. This is what they should do now.
