Profit is not our motive

Published: 30 September, 2010

•  A NUMBER of contributors implied that  the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation (UKCMRI) was being set up to make money (September 23). It is not.

UKCMRI is being established as a charity and is supported by founders who work for the public good with no profit motive. UKCMRI will create jobs, bring education benefits, improve health and boost local business and the regeneration of St Pancras and Somers Town.

Research will be carried out safely and securely, as happens throughout the extraordinary cluster of medical research institutions already based in Camden. An exhibition of our plans is open on our site to the north of the British Library at Brill Place. Visit www.ukcmri.ac.uk for more details.
John Cooper
Interim chief executive, UKCMRI
