• NOW that Michael Palin (Letters, September 16) has pointed out the poor state of a lovely old bridges, maybe something can be done. 

Funding is difficult with all the cut-backs and restoration costs money. 

I have been involved in the restoration of Sir Richard Burton’s mausoleum and most money has come from private donations. 

So come on Michael, put your hand in your pocket and get the ball rolling! I’ll subscribe if he does.
