Luftwaffe were doing their duty

Published: 2 September, 2010

• I EXPERIENCED a number of near misses by bombing raids during the 1939-45 war.

On July 24 1944 I was rescued from the wreckage of my home, the result of a doodlebug, that fell in Canterbury Terrace.

People I knew, were killed that day, some of them children. However, I object to the words “…murdered by Hitler’s pilots” in an article (New Journal, August 26) regarding a bombing incident during the Blitz.

The German air force were under orders, and doing their duty, as were people in the British armed services.

The word “murderer”, should be used to describe former Prime Minister Tony Blair, a war criminal, responsible for 100,000 deaths in Iraq.

He should be put on trial for war crimes.
