Let’s hear it for cabbies

• THERE are more factors that need to be taken into consideration when comparing black taxis and minicabs (Letters, August 26 and September 2).
Every London black taxi is wheelchair accessible (very few minicabs are) and in conjunction with borough councils there is a taxi card scheme that allows passengers with disabilities to travel for as little as £1.50 to attend hospital appointments, day centres, etc.
Several charities, including war veterans and children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses also benefit from London taxi drivers who give up their free time to take them on trips.
London black taxis are always striving to make improvements while providing vital transport in the capital.
Hotel.com has just completed a survey of the taxi services in the largest cities in the world and London black taxis came first for the third year running.
