Lessons of firm’s failure
Published: 24 September, 2010
• HOMES for Islington (HfI) was recently on the point of signing a 10-year contract with Connaught for cyclical repairs and major works when the firm went into administration.
You might have thought it would have learned some lessons from this. But no, in my mail this morning there’s a letter from HfI telling me it wants to enter a new 10-year contract for the same work with Mears, with no further consultation with leaseholders.
Ten years! With the perilous state of the nation’s finances, might it not be more prudent to enter a two-year contract instead, renewable but only after leaseholder consultation?
