High speeds are a danger

Published: 2 September, 2010

• YOUR report (Probe after police van and car collide at traffic lights, August 26) on the collision at the intersection of Bayham and Plender streets indicates the extreme inadvisability of Boris Johnson’s proposal to remove the lights from this corner.

Given the speed at which many vehicles tear down the one-way Bayham Street, removal of the lights would make this not only an extremely hazardous crossing for vehicles but also for the many pedestrians who use this route.

We do, however, need completely to rethink the Camden Town gyratory system, which is extremely unfriendly to pedestrians and cyclists.

The 20mph zone on the high street has made a difference, but speeds on Camden Street, Royal College Street and St Pancras Way are dangerously high.
