Front-line Hampstead health service to be cut

Published: 30 September, 2010

• IT is hard to believe the proposals contained in the latest papers from the Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust that they wish to cut more than 100 of their in-patient beds among which will be the beds for elderly patients some of whom suffer from Alzheimer’s disease in the very beautiful Queen Mary Hospital site in Hampstead  where there is peace and tranquillity. This is a particlarly cruel cut against a very frail and vulnerable group.

These proposals seem to be entirely contrary to the pledge of the coalition government to protect front-line services.

The in-patient beds are the front line of the Foundation Trust. We can be assured that even when they make these drastic cuts they will still maintain the number of managers and their salaries will increase and it will certainly look as if they are being rewarded for the cuts they make.
