Free school too small
Published: 30 September, 2010
• REGARDLESS of the underlying principles as to whether there should be free schools at all, a major consideration surely should have been the undoubted substantially higher costs for running a very small school such as that proposed at St Luke’s in Hampstead.
At a time when we are repeatedly being asked to tighten our belts we see a school being opened which is demonstrably financially imprudent – for a mere 15 children.
It will doubtless require a subsidy to operate, and where will this come from? It will come from the other schools in Camden.
If there is a need for more places in the borough, they should at least be provided in schools that provide value for money.
