Free meals? That’s rich
Published: 24 September, 2010
• SINCE councils have to know which families are financially eligible for free school meals in order to measure the attainment of disadvantaged children, there is no problem whatsoever in sorting out who should be given a free lunch and who shouldn’t (Free-for-all is cheaper, September 17). It’s a wise use of resources to give to the poor, not the rich.
As to the Coalition government, we need to judge it in four years’ time to see if it has created a country that is fairer, greener and solvent.
