Why we are exploring ways of sharing services
Published: 7 October, 2010
• I DON’T think that Nick Russell (Opinion, Problem shared could mean a tough job is done by halves, September 30) has quite faced up to the scale of his coalition government’s cuts programme.
As the latest news of cuts in child benefit and a cap on benefits emerges the scale of the cuts crisis is hitting home to everyone in Camden.
Faced with this crisis I believe it is the duty of the council to explore every means to find savings that will protect our most vulnerable people and preserve Camden’s social mix.
Camden cannot become a no-go area for the poor and middle income families.
That is why we are exploring with Islington Council what savings can be made by reducing administrative overheads and sharing services and, of course, we will be open with residents about what savings and what options are possible.
We hear a lot now about deficit deniers but those, like Nick Russell, who have chosen, wrongly I believe, to back the most draconian attack on welfare and public services that this country has ever seen cannot get away with being cuts deniers.
