Traffic has its priorities

• IAN Macpherson complains that the chaotic situation at the crossing at the southern end of York Way in King’s Cross is worsened by the fact that taxis are using the area as an unofficial drop-off point (Pedestrians versus traffic in a desperate battle for space, September 19).
In fact, there are two red signs by the kerb indicating that it is for taxis only to set down, as they are not allowed to set down at the front of the station due to the bus stops there.
The problem arises when minicabs also use the facility, or indeed when police vehicles stop so their occupants can nip into McDonald’s opposite.
It is obvious that Mr Macpherson is a car hater. However, we need to keep this city moving, as it is the hub of Europe, and occasionally traffic has to take priority, especially in such a busy area.
