Tap skills

• WE have the GPs and the bureaucrats – how can they be organised to improve our health service and perhaps reduce costs?

I suggest a primary care trust board could be formed of GPs, public/ patient representatives and officers. We should be tapping the skills and experience of GPs, the recently acquired skills of commissioners and the needs and wishes of local people.

Various ways could be considered for the representation of the public, through the local authority; from a beefed-up LINk/health watch; or more imaginatively, learning from the experience of the governing body of a foundation trust such as UCLH with its strong emphasis on improving quality of care.
