Speed curb saves live
Published: 1 October, 2010
• YOUR article (20mph lobby targets our busiest road, September 24) included a most extraordinary quote. It was from the Islington Taxpayers’ Alliance representative, who said 20mph would slow everything down.
Death on our roads is an extremely emotive issue. So rather than engage in a slanging match I would pose a simple question to the Islington Taxpayers’ Alliance: on what evidence is this claim based?
For it is incontrovertible that reducing speed reduces deaths and serious injuries on our roads. So a speed limit of 20mph is a sensible restriction on vehicular traffic. It is not expensive to implement.
If Islington Taxpayers’ Alliance wishes to challenge this by producing alternative evidence then I urge it to do so. Does it really accept that families have to be blighted by the effects of excessive speed without due cause?
