Sentence too lenient

Published: 14 October, 2010

• FOLLOWING a recent burglary in Belsize Park the accused was sentenced to only six months community service, despite the enormous damage he did, estimated at costing between £2,000 and £2,500 to put right.

Nor was he required to return the stolen laptops, gold necklace or anything else he took, or to compensate the victims for their substantial losses.

This sentence seems totally inadequate to me.

I believe the magistrate was far too lenient.

What do others think?
