Sell-out over tuition fees

Published: 14 October, 2010

• YOU would think  the Lib Dems, whose election manifesto stated they would scrap unfair university tuition fees for students taking their first degree and use “a financially responsible plan to phase fees out over six years”, would not be able to accept the findings of Lord Browne’s review.

Evidently, this is not the case.

Vince Cable has veered away from his move towards a graduate tax and Nick Clegg seems to see his signed pledge not to increase tuition fees as being worth nothing more than the paper it was written on.

Lib Dems are now putting their weight behind a system that could see a graduate’s debt double in 10 years.
