Scams by fake landlords

Published: 28 October, 2010

• A FOOTNOTE to your very effective warning to tenants on the risk of landlord frauds (October 21).

This saga began in June 2009 when I heard first-hand from a new Japanese neighbour how she had been fleeced of £400 at a flat in Tufnell Park.

She learned the agents for the property and Kentish Town police were aware of several victims before her. We learned of more cases in St John’s Wood, Swiss Cottage and West Hampstead.

CFPT’s professional organiser Robert Taylor  has now been invited by Gumtree websites, to discuss how we can reduce the incidence of its use by scammers to advertise non-existent lets.
