Regeneration – tell us what you think

Published: 1 October, 2010

• I WRITE to reassure residents that no decisions have been made over the plans to regenerate Church Street and Paddington Green as suggested in your article (‘City Hall is playing games with our lives over demolition bid’, September 24).

This project is very much at the early stages and it is vital to stress that no final decisions have been made.

Contrary to claims in your article, residents are not “being kept in the dark” about the details of this project as these are yet to be worked out.

For many months we have been working with the community to develop initial options for Church Street and Paddington Green and are now holding a major consultation to seek residents’ views before any decisions are made.

We have organised a number of extra events in October that will focus on different parts of Paddington Green, where we also want to reaffirm the commitment we have made to local people. For example, we will ensure that everyone currently living in the area is able to stay in the area and if a resident’s home is affected appropriate compensation will be awarded.

We also want to reassure residents that our plans do not involve the demolition of Hall and Braithwaite Towers or Parsons House.

This is an opportunity for residents to tell us what they think – no decisions have been made yet and we will take on board your thoughts as we develop the proposals over the coming months.

This project is not only about improving housing in the area, it is also about providing new and better open spaces and to create jobs and business opportunities in the area.

We believe this regeneration programme will hold Church Street and Paddington Green in good stead for generations to come.
