Paying for leaky roofs
Published: 1 October, 2010
• WHILE it is true that Spa Green is a grade II*-listed estate, it is not true that “special materials” were responsible for the tragic and astronomical £40,000 bills (Hitting the roof, September 24).
In fact, there is nothing listed about the concrete, mdf and surface-mounted plastic trunking used throughout these major works which have cost the public purse, council tenants and council leaseholders so dearly.
Yet despite such cost, our new (somehow unguaranteed) roofs leak and we suffer the legacy of endless defects costing us all even more money on a daily basis. Pamela Mullen’s deceased husband’s pension has simply paid for Homes for Islington’s endless inefficiencies and the amoral practices of the construction industry. Shame on them all.
