Obsession with cars
Published: 15 October, 2010
• I SEE that the car-hating lobby are at it again (20mph lobby targets our busiest road, September 24).
As was predicted, once 20mph zones were introduced for all minor roads across the borough, it was only a matter of time before these people began to meddle with our main roads.
They will not be satisfied until the whole of Islington, or indeed the whole of London, grinds to a halt.
What is this obsession? While no one would advocate speeding or dangerous driving, there has to be a balance, and all common sense has gone out of the window.
Why would anyone use a bus or indeed a taxi if it were forced to creep between Archway and the Angel.
Yes, the A1 is like a motorway at places, but there is a reason it is like that, and has been for years: it is necessary as it carries so much traffic.
Slowing it down will only increase pollution and journey times for everyone.
Hugo Terry clearly does not drive for a living, and so should not stir it up for those who do in order to further his own agenda.
It is to be hoped Mayor of London Boris Johnson will see sense and quash this silly idea.
