Narrow the pay gap

• I WAS extremely pleased to read that Islington Council has made the decision to bring its cleaning services back in-house (Clean break for Town Hall, September 17).

It was even better to read the commitment that those workers will receive to the London living wage, which is designed to combat poverty and ensure that people are better off in work than out of work.

The Green Party is working hard to ensure a national minimum wage at 60 per cent of net national average earnings (currently £8.10) and to implement a “maximum wage” of 10 times that of the lowest-paid worker, creating a lesser gap between those at the top and bottom of any pay scale.
