Nails are perilous for our dogs

Published: 14 October, 2010

• I HAVE to write to warn dog lovers.

I have a 14-year-old shih-tzu dog who still thinks she is a puppy, she has had one eye removed and no central vision in the other because of a cataract.

She is a very happy dog and loves walking outside, she finds her way round by sense of smell.

Last week, she was on her usual walk when I heard her yelp and screech in pain.

To my horror when I knelt down by the side of the brick wall her eyelid was caught on a large rusty nail coming out from the wall.

I was in shock but carefully lifted her eyelid off the nail. I was so upset that I didn’t notice it when I was walking her.

Why oh why don’t the companies who erect these placards for advertising flats and houses make sure they remove the nails?

Rosie was a very lucky dog not to have lost her other eye.

I am sure there are hundreds of these types of nails sticking out of walls in London, so anyone with a dog should take care walking by brick walls.
