Meter scam warning

• MAY I alert readers to a scam in connection with the changing of gas pipework.

Householders’ meters need to be inspected, but bogus inspectors are working.

They tell you there is a problem which would require bringing in machinery.

They then require a “24-hour, four-figure returnable deposit” for the machinery.

I would advise anybody, particularly those living alone, to be extra vigilant.

I have informed the National Grid and police.
