A fighter for those without a voice

Published: 7 October, 2010

• THANK you for your coverage on the very sad death of Councillor Dave Horan (September 30).

Much has been said in these pages about Dave and his life, but it was clear by the range of people from across Camden that attended his funeral how highly respected he was.

I will miss the wise counsel from Dave who was always there for me to offer advice on how to assist Camden residents.

He had an encyclopedic knowledge of our borough and entered local politics to assist those without a voice.

Losing a friend at such a young age is tragic. I would ask any resident who can spare some change to join me in making a donation to the Macmillan nurses charity, who cared for Dave in his final days.

Help for Irish community

• MAY I add my tribute to the work and support which Councillor Dave Horan did for the Irish community in Camden particularly the homeless.

Mourners from the broadest spectrum of Camden society and beyond attended his funeral on October 29 and politicians of all shades were represented.

Let us hope that Dave’s legacy of fraternity and fairness will not be forgotten.

Socialism may well be in decline but, as Dave has demonstrated by his dedication to its ideals throughout his life… not quite yet.
Danny Gallivan,
Robert Street, NW1
