• I READ recently that this government is thinking of scrapping the Freedom Pass for the over-60s as a way of cutting costs.
Each day hundreds of people get on through the second and third doors of bendy buses and don’t pay. I know that on rare occasions the Transport Police and bus inspectors stop buses to check people’s tickets or Oyster cards. Some people get fined on the spot but not enough. Bus companies must lose thousands of pounds each day.
Why doesn’t London follow cities such as Malaga in Spain where bendy buses have only one exit door and one entrance door? The Mayor of London has approved a new bus that has two exits and one entrance/exit door at the front. Yet again another free bus on its way.
Why do these people get free bus journeys, yet law-abiding Freedom Pass holders are to be penalised by having passes taken away?
