Changes to hit tenants
Published: 8 October, 2010
• THE proposed changes in housing benefit cuts will really hit Westminster council tenants.
Over the last 20 years the Conservative housing policy in Westminster has been a disaster.
These new proposals will surely lead to Westminster being economically cleansed of all low income council tenants.
It is predicated that tens of thousands of low-income families in inner London and other areas of high housing demand will have to move to the suburbs, putting huge pressure on schools and other services.
The lack of planning and provision by the Conservatives have created the problems that the community now faces. It is wrong if they are now going to penalise the lowest earning families in Westminster to plug a hole in the council budget. Westminster as a community will change forever.
Although the council tax is artificially low in the borough the cost of living is one of the highest in the country.
