Wild oasis

Published: 18 November, 2010

• PEOPLE here are very anxious that the community wood in Lismore Circus, which many have helped to create and maintain, is in jeopardy from the major plans for the area.

As a group of volunteers, we negotiated with the council in 2000 to take over a small area to turn it into a wild place.

We started work there in 2001. It was very hard work as so much heavy building materials had been dumped there.

The care of it, with a series of volunteers, has continued for nearly 10 years.

Now it is a little oasis where there is colour or interest at all times of the year, especially when the wild roses are in bloom or covered in hips, and where birds and other wild creatures find food and refuge.

It would be greatly missed if it was destroyed. We hope the council will take it into considerations.
