So proud of parades

Published: 26 November, 2010

• MAY I congratulate you on the excellent coverage by writer Terry Messenger and photographer Andy Barker of Remembrance events (Honouring the fallen, November 19). The support given for our three parades in Islington that day was outstanding.

As I commence my last year as Deputy Lieutenant of Islington, I am encouraged by the excellent turnabout and smartness being achieved by the standard bearers, who I hope will remain in post for years to come. Prior to the parade outside Islington town hall, in the mayor’s parlour the Rev Michael Learmouth conducted a simple but moving service dedicating Islington Veterans’ Association’s new banner.

For my part, although after December 2011 I will no longer appear in uniform in the borough, my heart and loyalty will remain firmly in Islington. I am confident my successor will receive the same warm welcome as I did more than 17 years ago.

COL BRIAN KAY
Deputy Lieutenant of Islington
