In praise of one reform by the education secretary
Published: 25 November, 2010
• THE government has received a lot of criticism lately, so when it gets something right I feel it is only fair to praise it.
Education secretary Michael Gove has just announced the end of the Financial Management Standard in Schools to the delight of all headteachers, governors and bursars. No longer will we have to draft the sinister-sounding and worthless “statement of internal control”, or carry out the fatuous “self-evaluation of governors’ financial management competencies” or do the 100 other FMSiS tasks born of politicians’ wishful thinking and self-deception.
Three cheers for Mr Gove!
