Help for our neighbours in need
Published: 4th November, 2010
• THE Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) and subsequent commentaries have highlighted the precarious lives led by many Camden residents.
This will not come as news to all of us.
The St Pancras Welfare Trust receives applications for grants that graphically describe the most distressing situations that people face daily:
- children sleeping on bare concrete floors;
- parents with debilitating illnesses;
- children leaving care without winter clothes;
- women and children fleeing domestic violence without any personal possessions;
- one person caring for their child, partner and parent;
- elderly with no means to replace essential, broken appliances…
The needs are endless, and we do our best to make a positive response to all appeals.
We help around 700 people every year and in addition we make special grants during the winter festive season to help bring a bit of cheer to families who otherwise would face a bleak holiday period.
In response to the CSR and government’s ideas about the Big Society some Camden residents have already taken the lead. They have generously donated their Winter Fuel Allowance, which will be used to supplement our Festive Grants programme.
Should any reader wish to help in a like manner, we can be contacted at the address below or via www.spwt.org.uk
Gift aid forms are available to maximise the benefit for our neighbours in need.
