Green need

Published: 25 November, 2010

• MARY Barnes is absolutely right to emphasise the importance of keeping the community garden in Lismore Circus (Wild oasis, November 18).

The same applies to the trees in the Gospel Oak area such as those which surround Barrington Court.

Like the community garden they give the environment a vital element of greenery and natural life, instead of being just a concrete jungle.

If they are destroyed to make way for yet more bricks and mortar, the result will be desecration not regeneration.

There must be a firm undertaking that the existing trees and grass around Barrington Court and elsewhere in the area will be preserved.
