The eternal killing fields

• BRAVO Illtyd Harrington (The killing fields still yield a rich harvest of death, November 18).

Your best piece yet with John Pudney’s message: “Better by far to see his children fed.”

I wonder how many young men join the armed forces (where at least they are fed and clothed) in lieu of finding another job?

“Join the Army, see the world; meet interesting people. – and kill them.”

History endlessly repeats itself with names the only variables. Power corrupts and if I had ever sought it no doubt I would not be exempt from that, human nature being what it is.

But no money – no power. So in the end, does it all come down to “The love of money is the root of all evil” (Timothy I).
