Celebrity surprise?

• I WAS looking forward to the lights switch-on at Highbury Barn – until I read that this year there might not be a local celebrity but an Islington councillor doing the honours instead (Lights squabble dims the festive spirit, November 12).  

The year Clive Anderson did the lights he gave a rousing speech about supporting the shops at the Barn, saying, in so many words, that it’s the shops that make it the lovely, twinkly, villagey place it is. The annual celebrity switch-on adds to that special vibe.   

Highbury “famous faces” Gwyneth Strong and Nick Hornby have done the switch-on in previous years. We locals were looking forward to finding out who it would be this time… Nick Robinson, Kathy Burke… even Dermot O’Leary, we wondered. Let’s hope we still get to enjoy that special Christmas surprise.
